CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Authorities at Eastern Illinois University say someone vandalized chemistry labs and classrooms during the Thanksgiving break.
The Mattoon Journal-Gazette reports the vandalism resulted in thousands of dollars in damage to laboratory equipment and ruined faculty research projects. A student discovered the vandalism on Friday.
William Weber is vice president of business affairs at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. He said the vandalism was “a huge shock” to the chemistry faculty. Weber said some faculty members will have to start “their research from scratch.”
Campus police and the Charleston Police Department are investigating and concentrating on the third and fourth floors of the school’s physical science building.
